Track History

Our eight lane track has been around since 1985 as part of the former Crownpoint Sports Complex and was the first and only facility of it's type in the City until Scotstoun track opened in the 1990s.

These pictures show the original construction of the track.

The official opening ceremony took place on Sunday 9th June 1985 and included International Athletics, a Highland Gathering and Family Fun Day. Click here to download a copy of the opening day programme.

The Centre also played host to the outdoor World Netball Tourament from 15-28 August 1987. These were to be the last ever outdoor netball Championiships.

If you have any old photos or stories please contact us - we'd love to hear from you.
